With V3 being released there will be some operational changes coming. As of this post, the Fitz has not been released, but I saw a video today and it looks amazing. I'm still trying to get my client registered with V3 and I will be moving the server host over in the coming days. I will be shutting the V2 server down for now and as I get things moved into V3 I will make another post about getting the server back online and the weekly sessions going again.
I'm interested to get feedback on how V3 could possibly change the server with so many new features.

I think the AI Dispatching and AI Humping provide the opportunity to automate those functions when needed to create time to run locals. That will come in handy when we're behind on the schedule.

Yes, I have tested both at least on SoCal and AI DS has issues if it gets too many trains in one area, it starts misrouting things and doing silly things, but I haven't had any issues with AI hump

At the CMFR we found though that the new server only mode doesn't work right now, if you load a world in it and host it, anyone who joins can't see or place any trains, they will show up on the DS screen but you can't see them, so for now you still have to run the host like normal with graphics

Good to know! It's been a busy week IRL so I'm just getting a chance to sit down and think about how V3 will effect the server and the southeast routes. The server will be down a few weeks for sure. I'll be honest, I'm not sure I can run V3 on the old host, but... John told me in an email that he didn't recommend it, but it worked pretty well I think. I'm not sure how intense V3 is as a host, but I just think it is too old to continue to be the host. However, I just picked up a new desktop over the holidays so I know my old client could possibly become the new host. I'll test that out at a later date, but for now I am going to pull the server down and do some tests in V3 SP. The server will definitely be moving to V3, but as to watch features we will be using is a real question.
First thing I am going to work on is the Industry Config, I feel like the Fitz is really close and that will mean even more changes so I'm hesitant to get too crazy on the AI spawn changes.
Last night I did a quick test and it looks like I can copy and paste the V2 files into V3 so we may be able to pick up where we left off as far as the industry config concerns. I'll move the AI spawns and world save over this weekend and test it out.
It is exciting for sure, but there is a lot of unknown for me right now so I'm a little nervous with so many new toys to consider. I'll keep everyone update, but there is not doubt the server will be back soon. Thanks for your continued support and I'll keep you updated as things progress on my end.

FYI there seems to be issues with clients being able to view industry tags on servers in V3. Me and a few others at the CMFR have tried multiple ways to work around it and we can't seem to get them to show up on a client joining the server. Emailed John but he hasn't responded. Just so you know, it seems it is something John will have to fix.

I just read that the manual hump in Rice is not working either. That means that all trains must be AI humped.
Just an update, still working getting the config updated. Still doing some research on the changes to Georgia Pacific and Bostwick. Starting at Taft Industrial and working my way north right now.

I know there hasn't been an actual Run8 update, but is there a work around that has been found? If possible I'd like to keep the server on the old host and I think it may be possible with "server only" mode.

Not that I know of, I would suspect it is some deeper issue like it is trying to rely on something graphics related from the host and now there is no graphics there, I don't have any evidence of that but that would be what makes sense to me given what is happening with it but I doubt someone works around it before John releases the first update. You can still turn all the graphics down of course, which obviously helps a lot.

Yeah, but I'm not sure turning everything down is going to be able to run it. That's the problem. I emailed them a few years ago and they recommended I not use the old host even for V2. I'm trying to wait a few days to see if an update comes out, but I'm not going to wait long.

Ah I see, hopefully an update comes soon, who knows how long it will take and unfortunately there won't be any kind of update from the devs in the mean time saying they are working on it and it will be here soon. We won't hear anything of it until it seemingly comes out of thin air.

A new day brings new updates. It appears that there are several bugs with the Rice Hump so I am hesitant to go ahead and put the server back up. It will be a few more days before I am able to do anything else, but right now there are several bugs in Rice that make things a bit more complicated.

I almost have the new client set up and then I will start working on getting the server back online. Still not sure what to expect when it goes back online, but I'll keep everyone updated when it goes live. ETA right now is some time tomorrow.... I hope!
